ACORN – Open Letter
August 2026

Join tenant organizations (and those that support them!) from across Canada by signing ACORN’s open letter to urge Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Gregor Robertson to make the National Housing Strategy (NHS) process transparent and inclusive, ensuring that tenants, who stand to be disproportionately impacted by its outcomes, are at the forefront of the consultation process.
The National Housing Strategy was created in 2017, and its goal was to “ensure everyone in Canada has access to housing that meets their needs and that they can afford.” The Federal government is currently developing a new National Housing Strategy, but have been silently meeting with stakeholders with zero transparency.
The realities of the housing crisis are not experienced by Federal leadership. Every Minister in the Liberal Cabinet is a home owner and 38% are landlords. When the decision makers in our government benefit financially from a system that maintains the status quo, transparency and public input are necessary to begin to address this asymmetry.
